Door Hardware 101 – The importance of Document Q
An introduction to Document Q
Approved Document Q is the standard for England that covers the security of doors and windows for residential dwellings. The document was first published in 2015 and is the approved document in which PAS 24 testing standard applies to.
The importance of Doc Q
Security and safety are at the forefront of Approved Document Q ensuring that all products meeting that standard are performing as they should – protecting lives and ensuring safety. Our mission at Rutland is to enhance compliance and performance at every door – achieving compliance is a necessity, improving the safety of every individual is our passion.
Check out our video ‘Explaining Door Standards’, which covers both Doc Q and PAS 24.
Doc Q and PAS 24
What’s the relationship between Doc Q and PAS 24? In short, Approved Document Q gives guidance on how to comply with the security standard for doors and windows, while PAS 24 specifies test methods relevant to the enhanced security performance of doorsets and windows in the UK, providing evidence to demonstrate that a product meets the requirements of Doc Q.
Is a compliance shift on the horizon?
Recent discussions suggest that Doc Q may soon be updated, potentially introducing stricter security standards that could affect the door hardware industry. However, this has not been confirmed, and details on the nature of the changes or who they will impact have not yet been released. At Rutland, we continually monitor changes to door legislation and will report updates on LinkedIn and under the Resource Centre our website: rutlanduk.co.uk/news
