Introduction to the Multipoint Lock
The Rutland Multi-Point Lock was developed with the needs of all stakeholders in mind, supporting the door manufacturer to the end-user in security, safety, and ease of fitting and operation.
Supported by Police Secured by Design, the RMP3 multipoint lock is successfully tested for fire, smoke, PAS 24 security, BS6375 weather, repeated opening and closing durability, and strength tested as part of a compliant doorset.
Testing and Compliance
Compatible with 54mm thick door frames, the multipoint lock has been tested to BS EN 12217, meeting the requirements of class 2. To meet these compliance standards, Class 2 internal door sets must not require users to exert more than 50N of force to operate.
Rutland’s multipoint lock allows for easy operating forces across all its functions, from opening and closing to locking and unlocking.
Specifically, independent testing recorded an average force of 18.2N needed to latch, and 36.87N to disengage. The average torque required to lock and unlock was 0.23Nm and 0.17Nm, respectively. Overall, the test demonstrated that a force of 48.27N was required to commence and maintain motion (repeated opening and closing).
Advantages of the RMP Multipoint Lock
Are you a door manufacturer striving for streamlined production? Or a council seeking robust, compliant security solutions for your residents? Here are just a few of advantages of the Rutland Multipoint Lock.
For Door Manufacturers
Rutland’s Multipoint Lock provides solutions for doorset manufacturers from its non-handed lock and keeps, to all three keeps being easily adjustable. This lock simplifies installation with its self-locking and auto-locking functions, providing significant convenience for both residents and users. Additionally, it supports the efficient operation of self-closing fire and security doors.
Compared to some lock keeps, Rutland’s RMP multipoint lock keeps help door manufacturers save valuable time during the timber frame production process. Recessed keeps typical require extra finishing. The RMP3 flush keeps eliminate this step, saving door manufacturers lead time on the production line. Based on customer feedback Rutland has received, recessed keeps leads to hand-finishing the paint to cover raw timber areas. Rutland’s multipoint lock keeps takes this extra step out of the process – allowing the process to be streamlined.
Advantages to end users
Housing Associations and Councils often inquire about the secure automatic locking system provided by Rutland. While the hook bolts “automatically” fire and lock, the resident simply throws the deadbolt to secure the door. A key advantage of the automatic locking hooks at the top and bottom is that the resident doesn’t need to lift the handle to lock the door. This ensures that no matter the individual’s strength, residents can feel confident that the door is securely locked.
From Rutland’s experience working with Councils and Housing Associations, many residents add extra locks when they have a single-point lock installed on their door, often for added peace of mind regarding residential security. However, this deviation from the original testing and approved specification can compromise the doorset’s compliance, and resident’s safety. The benefit of installing the Rutland multipoint lock with its 3-point locking system is that it offers high security from the outset, giving residents peace of mind and eliminating the desire to add additional security measures themselves.
